Purging Compounds for Blow Moulding
The majority of Continuous Extrusion Blow Moulding machines work at high volumes, for small margins. This, added to the increasing ‘Just In Time’ delivery requirements of customers, has resulted in a challenging environment for blow moulders.
With the inherent hold-up points in all head designs, long colour changes and black specking (loosened, degraded polymer or masterbatch) are everyday occurrences in the life of a blow moulding machine.
Aquapurge products can help to banish these everyday problems and improve process efficiency.
There is a popular misconception in the industry regarding REGRIND: in blow moulding, you can safely use up to 75% scrap, from tops and tails, in your normal process and that is amazing by anyone’s standard.
But here is where many companies get it wrong – You’ll never make money making non-productive regrind (regrind you make when not making saleable containers): in fact, you’ll lose a colossal amount.
Just imagine that for a week you made regrind (instead of containers) to sell. Even without doing the numbers, you know this will result in a huge loss.
Now think about the opposite scenario, in which your machines make saleable product 100% of the time. Of course, it’s near impossible it would mean no tool changes, start-ups, breakdowns, staff shortages or colour changes.
Fixed costs are the same in each case – same whether your efficiency is 0% or 100% but turnover is at opposite ends of the spectrum when trying to sell regrind compared to containers.
The answer is to make as little non-productive regrind as possible. By maintaining machine cleanliness – with Poly Clear HMEX, or a host of other Aquapurge products – you will run your system as close to 100% efficiency as you can, and reap the benefits.
